Marimba Program
We are excited to announce that Sojourner’s Marimba Band (Manhanga) is back for the 2025-26 school year! The Sojourner Marimba Program is managed by the Sojourner Education Foundation. It is a voluntary, after-school activity offered to Intermediate (4th and 5th grade) students only. Practice is directly after school, from 2:15 – 3:30 pm, one day a week (M, W or Th), as well as one recess practice each week. It takes place in the Orff classroom. You can also expect your child to participate in several performances (location varies) typically toward the end of the season. Parents or caretakers are responsible for picking up their children promptly at 3:30 pm after practice, providing transportation to and from performances, and assisting with transportation of instruments as needed. The program runs mid-October through June.
Each year, the Sojourner Education Foundation estimates the per-student cost for Marimba. This includes staffing, instruction, administrative costs (insurance, etc.) and a Marimba t-shirt. Marimba fees vary from year to year. For the 2025-26 school year, the per-student fee will be $150 per student. The fee is slightly higher this season to help support a modest pay increase for our beloved artist in residence, Shera Sinell, whose incredible talent and dedication deserve more than we’ve been able to offer.
We’re setting up payment options so that you have the choice to make a single payment of $150, two payments of $57.50, or five payments of $30 per month. We do not have the ability to set up auto payments or reminders, so you will need to make each installment payment separately. We hope every student who wishes to participate is able to, so assistance through scholarships are available if this is a barrier to participation.
Before your child can participate, please complete the following:
- Review, agree to, sign and submit the attached contract, which outlines participation expectations. Signatures from both parents and students are required.
- Complete the Marimba Permission Form (included in link above).
- Submit your payment
Please return the contract, permission form, and payment by Monday, October 6th.
Marimba is scheduled to begin the week of October 13th. You will receive an email from Shera Sinell by Friday, October 10th, letting you know which days your student will be practicing (one after-school and one recess practice).
